This is the GUI of the PST2PST Backup agent. Note that although it has a manual Scan Now button, the backup runs automatically following the Control Stations' settings.
Note that the Restore button allows self service restore. However the administrator may configure the Control Station to remove it if this user-based restore is not desired (as is the case in the screenshot below).
There are two options for the selection. The first is based on the PST belonging to the Default Profile, and the second is based on the PST location in the File System:
Centrally define where the backup will be saved to… There are three options for this selection:
a. Central Location.
b. Home Directory.
c. External USB Drive per Workstation
Centrally define how the backup will work:
a. Full Sync Method.
b. Copy Method.
Both of them work incrementally, and both are able to preserve backed up items, but the second will not rearrange the backed-up items if they change after the first time they are copied.
The central scheduling allows to configure the automatic backup scheduling within certain days and within a predefined backup window. Note that the backup can run even if Outlook is in use, so a true full automatic behavior is achieved.
Centrally controls which users will be controlled by which configuration. Support for “anyuser” is possible for workgroup environment. Iintegration with Active Directory groups/users for enterprise with one or multiple offices, where each office may backup onto a local or central backup storage.
