Outlook Backup - EdgeSafeTM - Incremental PST Backup and Archive Solution for Organizations Contact Us | Request Datasheet DataMills EdgeSafe™ is a unique incremental PST backup solution to backup Outlook's PST data seamlessly and incrementally. DataMills EdgeSafe provides a managed backup solution for PST files that are located on the users' notebook or desktop onto a central storage area. EdgeSafe with its PST2PST backup agent targets organizations that have email information stored on desktops and/or notebooks (in Outlook’s local PST archive file), and want to protect the mail information efficiently into a central location. Every predefined period EdgeSafe simply checks if the backup destination is available, and then it copies any email item that had been created/modified after the last backup run into a secure per user backup folder, which is located on a central backup/archive location. Since only new and changed email items are copied, the Outlook backup is incremental and therefore is very fast and consumes minimal storage space and resources. This also allows the backup to work even over slow VPN lines. Another unique point is EdgeSafe ability to reduce the size of the backup PST file in several ways: 1. Filtering out unwanted folders such as junk mail. 2. Backup is done for email items rather than copying bits and bytes of the PST file which may contain nothing more than large chunks of empty spaces. 3. New backup runs append the new items into the backup PST file avoiding the need to duplicate entire PST files just for the ability to recover historic items. EdgeSafe has the ability to backup PST files that are located on the users' workstations even if Outlook is open. This ensures consistent and automatic backup avoiding the need for the user to close its Outlook and wait for the backup to finish. Since the backup is incremental it can happen even while the user is working and since it is very light in resource usage, the user barely notices that the backup runs.
EdgeSafe is also network friendly even in very large deployments that use low bandwidth lines; it is able to handle large deployments by staging the first full backup run overcoming the network overload, as well as diffusing the backup over a period of time rather than starting at the same time . Another feature is the ability to restrict the backup to run only when the user is logged into its "home base network".
As EdgeSafe™ backup archives are standard; they can be searched by Outlook as well as by most search engines such as Google Desktop Search. EdgeSafe is also able to incrementally synchronize the backup PST file with the source PST so that it is ready for immediate "image like" recovery from a disaster situation, something that can even be allowed for the user to do. At the same time EdgeSafe is able to retain, for a pre configured period, historic items -- something that is needed for complying with new demands. Last but not least, EdgeSafe has central management control station that enables to centrally configure the backup agent, as well as to gather and summarize the daily logs.
